BAT HOUSE COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED!
“This competition is open to mammals of all ages and abilities, so have a go at designing some much needed social housing for your distant relatives.” Jeremy Deller
Architects, designers, bat enthusiasts and schoolchildren are invited to submit creative ideas for a Bat House for London – a building of aesthetic and environmental excellence, built with sustainable materials, that offers homes to bats and an educational visitor attraction for people.
The Bat House Project partners intend to build the winning proposal at the WWT London Wetland Centre, Barnes, West London.
To enter the competition you need to register by post with RIBA Competitions – download the Brief below for information on how to do this. Your entry will need to be received by 14.00hrs on Monday 10th September 2007.
There are three entry categories:
- Architects and design professionals
- Students and general public
- Schoolchildren
Prize money of £3,000, £1,000 and £500 will be awarded to the winner of each of these categories respectively, with a further £2600 distributed between the runners up.
Entries will be handled anonymously by the RIBA Competitions office and judged by a jury panel comprising artist Jeremy Deller, Amanda Levete of Future Systems architecture and design, Rowan Moore of the Architecture Foundation, bat experts Mike Waite from the Mayor's Office and Carol Williams from the Bat Conservation Trust, and Kevin Peberdy of the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust.
